The Variants
I thought it would be a good idea to give everyone a detailed look at all the possible variants of the Rue Morgue Records Murders In The Rue Morgue Vol I variants. This way, everyone can have a clear understanding of which product they have and what is and isn’t rare.
MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE VOL 1 – RED & BLACK SPLATTER (666 pressings)
We will start off by looking at the red & black splatter album.
This has a pressing of 666 copies. It came with a gatefold cover and an inner sleeve. There were 666 copies pressed. There are a very limited selection of these that went out with an incorrect OBI. I believe there are 10 of them in the wild with a typo. Fierce Deity was spelt Fierce Diety. You don’t want to know what it costs to have all those OBIs reprinted but there is no way I want our record out with mistakes like that.
pic: above & below – OBI left with typo, right is the correct one.
We have a box of about 600 incorrect OBIs, if you would like some sent – shoot me an email and you can have one.
The OBI is only included with the Red & Black Splatter version and the rarer Black Vinyl version. The OBI on the correct version lists the acts in alphabetical order.
Back cover typo: The word Guilotine is spelt wrong. It should be Guillotine. Unfortunately reproducing hundreds and hundreds of covers would have blown the budget to hell so this is an unfortunate type we will have to live with. After living with this project for months and months, the typo was only noticed when packing the first order. It was far too late to call for a reprint and… we could not afford to do so.
We did get it right in the audio cue sheet! Alas, we didn’t on the cover!
MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE VOL 1 – PICTURE DISC (100 pressings)
The initial run of the picture discs was marketed as being a limited edition run of 25 copies only. These needed to be outsourced and done internationally as the record plant we were using, Zenith Records, do not manufacture picture discs. By the time it came to go to press, the International plant had shut shop and we had to get these produced elsewhere. Only problem was, they would not do a small run of 25 copies so we ended up doing 100 copies via Impress Vinyl who outsource overseas. To make it still feel exclusive to our loyal customers who bought these first, the gatefold cover was included with the picture disc – OBI is NOT included with the picture disc. The remaining stock of picture discs do not come with the gatefold cover, or the OBI.
MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE VOL 1 – CD (1,000 pressings)
The CD version of Murders In The Rue Morgue Vol 1 was an added incentive to generate pre-orders for the album.
The first 200 people who purchased the album were granted access to our Private Facebook group, The 200 Club, and were given a free copy of the CD.
Like the initial OBI from the LP, there is a typo in the band name Fierce Deity. There are 100 copies in the wild with the name written as Fierce Diety. Check your copy of the CD and if yours has that typo, you are only 1 of 100 people who have that version. The same CD had a misprint on the actual CD surface. Notice the letter L in vinyl is NOT the correct colour.
(first pressing – SOLD OUT)
The remaining stock of CDs were printed with an alternate cover (to signify a second pressing) and are what we currently have in stock for sale or to send out to magazines, radio stations etc. This one, I am happy to say, is the correct one!
(second pressing)

Barb Sabadin
Hi JR…just FYI my CD has correct cover but has the ‘L’ error on the CD itself, so the 2 errors did not necessarily come together.
My LP OBI has the incorrect spelling of ‘Deity’ . I’m not complaining, just letting you know in case you wanted to know. Cheers…Barb Sabadin

also…just noticed…my LP OBI IS listed in alphabetical order, but ‘Deity’ is still spelled wrong as in ‘Diety’…
