Robert Eggers’ 2024 film “Nosferatu” is a reimagining of the classic vampire tale, blending elements from F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent film and Bram Stoker’s “Dracula.” Set in the early 1800s, the story centers on Ellen Hutter (Lily-Rose Depp), a young woman who, in her youth, pleads for a supernatural being to ease her loneliness, inadvertently awakening Count Orlok (Bill Skarsgård). Years later, Ellen is married to Thomas Hutter (Nicholas Hoult), a real estate agent in the German town of Wisburg. Thomas is tasked with facilitating a property sale to the enigmatic Count Orlok, who resides in a remote Transylvanian castle. Upon meeting Orlok, Thomas becomes increasingly uneasy due to the Count’s peculiar behavior and the discovery of bite marks on his own body. Meanwhile, back in Wisburg, Ellen experiences disturbing visions and a growing connection to Orlok. As Orlok relocates to Wisburg, he brings with him a plague, leading to widespread death and panic. Ellen learns that the only way to end Orlok’s reign of terror is to sacrifice herself by distracting him until dawn, allowing the sunlight to destroy him. In a climactic encounter, Ellen offers herself to Orlok, and as he feeds on her, the morning sun rises, causing his demise. Ellen succumbs to her injuries, dying in her husband’s arms, but her sacrifice saves the town from the vampire’s curse.
