Pet Sematery (1989) 4K UHD & Blu-ray

$50.99

The 4K Ultra HD release of “Pet Sematary” (1989) offers a significant enhancement over previous editions, delivering a more immersive and visually striking experience for both new viewers and long-time fans.

Video Quality

This release presents the film in a 2160p resolution with both HDR10 and Dolby Vision support. The remastering process has resulted in brighter visuals, with crisper whites evident in daylight scenes and improved detailing in darker sequences. The film maintains its original grain structure, preserving its cinematic feel, while offering sharper lines and more defined textures. Some optical effects may appear slightly blurred, but these instances are minimal and do not detract from the overall viewing experience.

Audio Quality

The audio is presented in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, consistent with previous Blu-ray releases. While an object-based audio track might have been a welcome addition, the existing mix provides a robust and engaging soundstage. Dialogue is clear and well-prioritized, and the soundtrack effectively utilizes the surround channels to enhance atmospheric elements, such as ambient sounds and directional effects.

Special Features

This edition includes both new and legacy bonus materials:

New Features:

Pet Sematary: Revisitation: An interview with director Mary Lambert reflecting on the film’s production and restoration.

Pet Sematary: Fear and Remembrance: Insights from the cast and crew of the 2019 remake discussing the original film’s impact.

Still Galleries: A collection of storyboards, behind-the-scenes photos, and marketing materials.

Legacy Features:

Stephen King Territory: A featurette exploring the author’s perspective on the story.

The Characters and Filming the Horror: Featurettes delving into character development and production insights.

Packaging

The physical release comes as a two-disc set, featuring the 4K UHD disc and a Blu-ray disc, both housed in a black case with an embossed slipcover. A digital copy is also included, providing flexible viewing options.

Conclusion

The 4K Ultra HD edition of “Pet Sematary” (1989) is a commendable upgrade, offering enhanced visual quality and a comprehensive set of special features that enrich the viewing experience. It’s a valuable addition to the collection of any horror aficionado or Stephen King enthusiast.

Description

Dr. Louis Creed (Dale Midkiff) moves his family—his wife Rachel (Denise Crosby), their young daughter Ellie (Blaze Berdahl), and toddler son Gage (Miko Hughes)—from Chicago to a quiet, rural home in Ludlow, Maine. Their new house is perfect except for one ominous feature: a busy highway where large trucks speed past regularly.

Their elderly neighbor, Jud Crandall (Fred Gwynne), welcomes them and warns them about the dangers of the road. He also introduces them to a mysterious pet cemetery (spelled “Sematary” on a handmade sign) located deep in the woods behind their house. The cemetery has been a burial ground for local pets for generations.
